The staff and students of LA SCORES want to wish everyone a happy new year as we kick off our first season of 2010! There are so many great things that come along with the new year. First of all, a revitalized vigor for school or work after the celebrations and days off brought by the holiday. Also, a feeling a newness. A new year, a new beginning, a clean slate.
Most of all, the new year provides us with a tangible feeling of opportunity unlike any other time of the year and it is up to us what we do with it. I am asking you to take this opportunity and do what millions of people around the world do at this time: make a resolution. But not a resolution to go to the gym or stop eating ice cream after midnight. We are asking you to make a resolution to help the children of your community. America SCORES has launched an online campaign called A New Year 4 Kids, where people around the country can post resolutions for 2010, about ways they will help children. Whether it be reading at your child's school or getting friends to volunteer at a local SCORES site, it is an opportunity to make a positive change that impacts the future generations of our world.
It is a way to do something rewarding for yourself while also helping others. It is a way to stay connected or reconnect with a person, a cause or an organization that you care about without spending a lot of money or making a huge time commitment. In the time it takes to watch SportsCenter you can call 5 friends and tell them about this blog, you can referee a game day or read a book to the Kindergarten and 1st grade classes at Charnock Elementary.
