Middle School Camp

This past week we held our Middle School Alumni Summer Camp.

It was a great turn out! We got to see a lot of familiar faces and reunited some old friends as well. The students had a blast! Although it was only a week, it was a week well spent! Soccer practice for two days then LA Galaxy game Wednesday night then the following day we had US Men's National Team and Bolton Wanderer's very on Stuart Holden come out and train with us! Injuries are a very tough setback but Stuart did not let that stop him from having a great time with our students.

We want to give a huge shout out to all of our students who were a part of the camp. We wouldn't be able to do anything without any of you!!

COACHART ALL STAR GAMES

 

COACHART ALL STAR GAMES!!!

America SCORES LA was invited to help out in CoachArt's All Star Game. Karen Pimentel, Vanessa Hernandez, Michelle Luis, and myself, Nahoul Gonzalez, attended the event in Huntington Park.

It was such great experience to help out such a great organization as CoachArt. We played Crazy Kickball with Coach DA and had a soccer scrimmage on the side as we prepared them for their All Star Soccer game. A handful of students who wanted to participate in a different way made crepes to which only one team would be named top chefs ( I have no idea how the judges could make a choice, THEY WERE ALL DELICIOUS!!!!) 

We would like to give a SPECIAL THANKS to Kia, Coach DA, Hector, and everybody else who took America SCORES LA into consideration and welcomed us with open arms!!

Can't wait for Camp CoachArt in a couple of weeks!

SCORES Week

We are very excited to announce that we will have our very first SCORES week including our
Poetry SLAM, SHOUT, and end of season Jamboree celebration!!
All of this will take place on the last week of May.
May 28th will be the Poetry SLAM, SHOUT along with Jamboree will be on the 30th!
We happily welcome any volunteers who would like to be involved with either event.

Spring Season Fever

Good Morning!!

I hope everybody had a great spring break!

If you are not aware, our Game Days are Fridays from 3pm - 4pm at Marvista Park on the turf soccer field.

The games are getting much more interesting!! Especially the Boys side; Games are heating up and many of the games are intense counter attacks and impressive teamwork from both ends of the field.

National Poetry SLAM

This past weekend Kristine Villaraza and Jonathan Flores had the chance to showcase their poems along with many other students from America SCORES 12 other sites around the country at the National Poetry SLAM!!

Chaperoned by coach Nahoul and Armond, the four of them traveled to New York City Saturday morning and returned Tuesday afternoon.

They showed everybody what LA was about; being humble, cooperative, amazing leaders as well as amazing team players. 

Congratulations Jonathan and Kristine again for making it to the National SLAM and representing Los Angeles like no other!!

Spring Season

SPRING SEASON!!
Aren't  all of you excited?!?!
Game Days will resume on Fridays; there will not be game day on March 21st nor on February 18th.
Our last Game Day dates are as follows;
3/28/14, 4/4/14, 4/11/14, 4/25/14, 5/2/14, 5/9/14, 5/16/14, 5/23/14
and the last Game Day will be on May 30th, 2014.

DC Program Retreat

      Two of America SCORES LA’s Coaches were invited to an America SCORES National Program Retreat to represent Los Angeles with the other 12 sites around the US. Armond and Nahoul spent a week in Washington DC going over practice strategies, new activities, and revitalizing connections amongst sites. Their trip consisted of day long trainings and many activities with other site representatives who have shared the same experience as they have. We are proud to have sent our two coaches to represent Los Angeles; and they represented us well! At the end of the retreat the National Board staff member asked each person to vote for a site that represented Commitment, Leadership, and Teamwork. Armond and Nahoul along with America SCORES Bay Area took home the Teamwork Badge! Congratulations Nahoul and Armond for a job well done!
